Hi, I’m Simy and I believe that data can be fun for everyone!

Looking back, quitting my job in software consulting probably sounds like a bold move. And to be honest, I wasn’t entirely sure it was the right decision.

I enjoyed the work, but something was off. The day-to-day tasks no longer challenged me and I knew I was capable of more.

Before making the leap, I spent a few years working in software implementation for fintech. During that time, I moved between a few different companies thinking a different environment and a fresh start would help.

But I realised it wasn’t just about the company or the projects; it was the kind of work I was doing.

That was the moment I decided to start focusing on AI.

My Background

I studied Computer Science and AI at university, where I built a strong foundation in programming, algorithms, and data structures. Although AI was one of the subjects I enjoyed most, I initially took a different path and began my career in software consulting.

Over the next few years, I worked on implementing banking platforms, data migrations and reporting within fintech. Those roles helped me develop strong technical and problem-solving skills that I still rely on today.

Eventually, my interest in AI brought me back to learning. I taught myself what I could - reading Medium articles, watching YouTube videos and working through the basics on my own. But after some time, I reached a point where self-learning wasn’t quite enough. I needed more support and more direction. That’s what led me to a three-month data science bootcamp at BrainStation.

Data Science Journey

At the start of 2025, I began my first AI role as a Junior AI Engineer! Here, I work with a talented team building AI solutions for the Accounts Payable space. This includes model development, experimentation and implementing models into production.

There’s still a lot for me to learn in data science and software engineering! My blog has been a great way to expand my knowledge and upskill on both traditional concepts as well as new techniques like vector search. I’m still growing in the field, and of course I make mistakes but I’ve learned that’s all part of the process!

I often hear people say, “Wow, working with AI must be so hard!” and I felt the same at the start. But it’s not as intimidating as it seems, I think that if I can learn AI and complete projects, anyone can!

That’s what I hope this blog shows: AI doesn’t have to be complicated and you don’t need to be an expert to get started!

Current Focus

Outside of my full-time role, I’m working on a project called SimBot Has Skills.

The idea is to build on my chatbot, SimBot, by turning it into something more interactive. A tool that helps people learn from my blog posts in a more guided, tutor-like way.
